Question: Where do you plug your home phone into?

Does a landline have to be plugged in?

Do landlines need electricity? No. Traditional landlines do not need electricity to work; however, these types of phones and the infrastructure needed to support them wont be around much longer. Find out the status of the traditional copper lines and what types of phones you should have when the power goes out.

What are home phones connected to?

There are two basic types of landlines. A corded landline is one that connects to the providers cabling through a wall jack. The phone base and the receiver (or handset) are connected by a cord. In a cordless landline, the phone base connects to the cabling through a jack but the handset is connected wirelessly.

Does a landline phone work in a power outage?

When it comes to your telephone, this service will need to be used with a device that doesnt require mains electricity in order to operate. Unless you have battery back-up and a corded telephone correctly connected, your phone will not work during a blackout.

Why is my home phone not working?

Make sure the phone cord is plugged into the correct port on your phone or device. Unplug the phone or device from the wall jack. If the dial tone returns it means your phone or device is damaged or defective. If these steps dont solve the problem, you may need to replace your phone cord.
