Question: What kind of glaze do you use on Hull Pottery?

How can you tell if a McCoy pottery is unmarked?

Look for details! McCoy Pottery is known for their attention to the little things, be it vibrant paint colors or the generous glazing. They also make their pieces very detailed. If a piece looks overly simplistic, or features thin paintwork, it is probably a fake.

Can you put glazed pottery in the oven?

Yes, you can, but a home oven wont reach the same high temperatures as an industrial kiln. Oven-dried pottery made at home will not be as hard & durable as kiln fired pottery. Pottery dried in a home oven is not made from standard pottery clay, but special oven-dry clay.

How can you tell if a pottery glaze is food safe?

To test a glazes acid resistance, squeeze a lemon wedge onto a horizontal, glazed surface. Changes in the glaze color indicate that acids from foods can leach materials from the glaze, and that it is not food safe.
