Question: Is being shy bad?

What is shyness? Shyness is usually associated with being quiet, insecure, and/or socially anxious. Being shy is not necessarily bad. We can all feel shy from time to time, so its alright to feel a little uncomfortable in new situations and with new people.

Whats wrong with being shy?

Because extreme shyness can interfere with socializing, it can also affect a persons self-confidence and self-esteem. And it can prevent someone from taking advantage of opportunities or trying new things. Extreme feelings of shyness are often a sign of an anxiety condition called social phobia.

Is shyness a bad trait?

Is shyness necessarily a bad thing? Chloe Foster, a clinical psychologist at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma in London, says shyness in itself is quite common and normal and doesnt cause problems unless it develops into more of a social anxiety.
