Question: What rights do criminals lose?

Can you lose your rights?

Losing Your Rights. As with all other states, convicted felons lose certain rights in California. This is true even after they have served their sentence and been released from prison. In fact, in California, felons now have the right to vote, even while in prison.

Do felons have the right to bear arms?

Under federal law, convicted felons lose their firearm rights, which is a decision that stemmed from a law developed in 1934. Since the Gun Control Act was passed in 1968, anyone convicted of a felony – whether or not it involved violence – loses his or her firearm rights.
