Question: What are the best years for Martin guitars?

1930-1939 are by far the most highly regarded and collectable Martins, but right through to the late 60s were awesome too. I guess if going by decade, youd put the 30s at one end and the 70s at another. But like I said, some absolute beauties came out of the 70s.

Are 70s Martins any good?

Martin guitars from the 70s tend to have a lousy reputation, such that their values are probably as low as theyll ever get. This does not mean that 70s Martins are to be avoided. They can be some of the best sounding guitars out there and can be bought for reasonable prices.

Do older guitars sound better?

Older guitars often sound better than newer ones as they dry out over time which causes them to become harder leading to a more resonant tone with better sustain. The increase in age affects the tone more in acoustic guitars than electric ones.

How can you tell a fake Martin D-28?

There are plenty of fakes out there but they are usually rather easy to spot. The bridge, the way the SN is stamped, the headstock, the volute on the back of the headstock, the purfling and binding, and plenty other things can tell whether its a real D28 or not.
