What do the numbers on my key mean?

The first number would usually correspond with the cut nearest the bow (or head) of the key. A higher number usually means a deeper cut. So if the second number is higher than the first and the second cut is deeper than the first cut, it is a pretty safe bet the number is the bitting of the key.
